Your First Vajacial: What to Expect, Step by Step

Booking your first vajacial? What happens step by step during The Hooded Lady Vajacial, when to book it after a wax, who it's for and how to care for your skin after.

What happens at a first vajacial? Your esthetician cleanses the bikini area, applies a warm towel and hydrating serum, uses high frequency to target ingrown hairs, does extractions as needed, and finishes with a soothing hydrojelly mask.

A vajacial can sound a little mysterious the first time you book one. It's actually simple, relaxing and very much like a facial, just for the bikini area. Here's exactly what happens at your first appointment, so you can walk in feeling comfortable.

A quick refresher: what is a vajacial?

A vajacial is one of our intimate area corrective skincare treatments. It treats the external bikini area only: the pubic mound, the bikini line and the inner thighs where hair grows. It does not involve any internal anatomy. The goal is healthier, calmer skin with fewer ingrown hairs and bumps. For the full background, read What is a vajacial?

Who a vajacial is for

A vajacial is a great fit if you:

  • Get ingrown hairs or bumps after waxing, sugaring or shaving.
  • Notice dry, rough or uneven texture in the bikini area.
  • Want to keep skin clear between Brazilian appointments.
  • Just want to take care of skin that often gets overlooked.

Every body is welcome, and every bikini area is different. There's no "right" way for it to look. This is about comfort and skin health.

When to book your first vajacial

Book your vajacial 7 to 10 days after your wax. It should never be booked on the same day as a wax. Freshly waxed skin is too sensitive for extractions and treatment, and about a week later is right when ingrown hairs start to surface. Catching them then means fewer bumps and fewer dark marks.

If you'd rather treat your skin at the same visit as your wax, that's what our Brazilian plus corrective treatment combinations are for. You can compare options on our intimate skincare page.

What happens during The Hooded Lady Vajacial

Our vajacial, The Hooded Lady Vajacial ($65), is tailored to your skin that day. Here's the flow:

  1. Consultation. Your esthetician asks about your skin, your hair removal routine, any medications, and what's bothering you most.
  2. Cleanse. A gentle cleanser prepares the skin.
  3. Warm towel and hydrating serum. Warmth softens the skin and helps the serum absorb.
  4. High frequency. A mild current targets ingrown hairs and helps detox congested follicles. You'll feel a light tingle and may hear a faint buzz.
  5. Extractions as needed. Trapped hairs and congestion are released carefully. If you don't need extractions, this step is skipped.
  6. Soothing hydrojelly mask. A cool, calming mask finishes the treatment and settles any redness.

You'll undress from the waist down in a private room and be draped throughout. Our Licensed Estheticians work quickly, explain each step, and check in with you along the way.

Does a vajacial hurt?

Most of it feels relaxing. High frequency is a mild tingle. Extractions can feel like a quick pinch, similar to a facial. If anything is uncomfortable, tell your esthetician and they'll adjust.

How to prepare

  • Time it 7 to 10 days after your last wax.
  • Don't pick or tweeze ingrown hairs beforehand. Let us handle them.
  • Skip heavy exfoliation the day of.
  • Tell us about any medications or active skincare, especially retinoids. Our guide to when not to wax explains why that matters.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Vajacial aftercare

  • Wear loose, breathable cotton for the rest of the day.
  • Skip hot tubs, saunas and heavy workouts for 24 hours.
  • Don't pick at any spots that were extracted.
  • After a few days, exfoliate gently two to three times a week and keep the area moisturized.

Want help choosing home-care products? Take our aftercare product quiz. It recommends Skin Script products, available in the studio and approved by our estheticians for the external bikini area. For general wax aftercare, see our Brazilian wax aftercare guide.

How often to book

Most clients book a vajacial between each wax, which works out to about once a month. If you're dealing with a lot of ingrown hairs or dark marks, a few months of consistent vajacials plus home care gives the best results. If dark marks are your main concern, read does waxing cause dark spots?
