Brazilian wax aftercare: what to do after your wax

How to care for your skin after a Brazilian, bikini, brow or underarm wax, sugaring, or a corrective skin treatment, so you stay smooth and avoid ingrown hairs.

After a Brazilian wax, skip heat, sweat and friction for 24 to 48 hours: no hot tubs, saunas, pools, heavy workouts, tight clothing or sex. Keep fragrance and self-tanner off the area. From day 3, exfoliate gently two or three times a week and moisturize daily to prevent ingrown hairs. Don't shave between waxes. If you get ingrown hairs, book a vajacial 7 to 10 days after your wax.

Day 0 to 2

The first 48 hours

  • Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear and clothing.
  • Skip hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, pools and the ocean.
  • No heavy workouts or anything that makes you sweat a lot.
  • Avoid sex for 24 hours.
  • Keep fragranced soap, lotion, self-tanner and deodorant off the waxed area.
  • Avoid sun and tanning beds.
  • Don't touch, pick or scratch. A cool compress calms redness.

Day 3 onward

Between waxes

  • Exfoliate gently two or three times a week.
  • Moisturize every day with a fragrance-free lotion or oil.
  • Don't shave or tweeze; let the hair grow for your next wax.
  • Rebook in 4 to 6 weeks for a Brazilian, so hair stays on the same growth cycle.
  • Prone to ingrown hairs or dark marks? Book The Hooded Lady Vajacial 7 to 10 days after your wax, or add an intimate area corrective skincare treatment to your next Brazilian.

By service

Aftercare for each service

Brows & face

For 24 hours, no makeup on the waxed area, no exfoliants, retinol or acids, and no direct sun or saunas. After a tint, avoid oil cleansers on your brows for a day.

Underarms

No deodorant or antiperspirant for 24 hours. Wear a loose top and skip the gym that day. Exfoliate gently from day 3.

Legs, arms & body

Loose clothing, no hot showers, baths or sun for 24 hours, then exfoliate and moisturize regularly.

Sugaring

Same as waxing: cool and clean for 24 to 48 hours, gentle exfoliation from day 3.

Vajacials & corrective treatments

Follow the home-care plan you're given at your appointment. After nanoneedling or brightening, avoid sun, harsh products and friction on the area for the time we advise.

Signature facial sessions

Drink plenty of water, keep skincare gentle for the rest of the day and wear sunscreen. Lymphatic work can make you a little thirsty or tired, which is normal.

Questions

Aftercare questions

What should I avoid after a Brazilian wax?

For 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot tubs, saunas, pools, heavy workouts, tight clothing, sex, self-tanner and fragranced products on the area. Freshly waxed follicles are open, and heat, sweat and friction can cause irritation or bumps.

When can I exfoliate after waxing?

Start on day 3. Exfoliate gently two or three times a week with a soft mitt or a mild exfoliating product, then moisturize. This is the best way to prevent ingrown hairs between waxes.

Is it normal to have bumps after a wax?

Some redness and small bumps for a day or two is normal, especially after a first wax. A cool compress and loose clothing help. If redness spreads or gets worse, the area feels hot or swollen, you see pus, or you have a fever, contact your healthcare provider.

Can I shave between waxes?

Try not to. Shaving resets your growth cycle, so hair comes back unevenly and your next wax is less smooth. If ingrown hairs bother you, book a vajacial 7 to 10 days after your wax instead.

How long after a wax can I go in the sun or tan?

Wait 24 to 48 hours before sunbathing or tanning beds, and use sunscreen on waxed face and body areas. Freshly waxed skin burns and darkens more easily.

Is aftercare different for sugaring?

No. Follow the same steps after sugaring: keep the area cool and clean for 24 to 48 hours, then start gentle exfoliation on day 3.
